seamus 2008 logoWelcome to the website for the 2008 National Conference of the Society for Electroacoustic Music in the United States, hosted by the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. This year’s conference is dedicated to pioneering electro-acoustic composer Vladimir Ussachevsky, in residence at the University of Utah from 1970 to 1990. The conference will include performances of his later electro-acoustic works, including his delightful Colloquy for orchestra and tape, premiered by the Utah Symphony in 1976. Following the national call for participation, approximately 100 recent electro-acoustic compositions, videos, and papers have been selected and will be presented at the conference.

This year's SEAMUS AWARD winner is Miller Puckette, who will present a lecture entitled:
Electronics encounters 'traditional' instruments (in tribute to Ussachevsky)

Miller Puckette is best known for authoring Max, a graphical development environment for music and multimedia synthesis, which he developed while working at IRCAM in the late 1980s. Puckette joined the Music department of the University of California, San Diego in 1994, and is Associate Director of the Center for Research in Computing and the Arts (CRCA). He is currently working on the free new real-time software system for live musical and multimedia performances called Pure Data ("Pd"), in collaboration with artists/researchers/programmers worldwide.
