SEAMUS 2008 - ASCAP/SEAMUS Student Commission Competition
The Society for Electro-Acoustic Music in the United States (SEAMUS) is pleased to announce the 2008 ASCAP/SEAMUS Student Composer Commissioning Program, with the help of Frances Richard and the American Society for Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP).
AWARDS
A maximum of two prizes may be awarded. The decision of the judges will be final.
First Prize
- Commission of $1250 for a new work of electro-acoustic music
- Performance of the commissioned work at the 2009 SEAMUS National Conference
- Performance of the submitted work at the 2008 SEAMUS National Conference
- Recording of the submitted work on the SEAMUS Compact Disc Series
- Certificate of recognition
Second Prize
- Commission of $750 for a new work of electro-acoustic music
- Performance of commissioned work at the 2009 SEAMUS National Conference
- Performance of the submitted work at the 2008 SEAMUS National Conference
- Certificate of recognition
Special Mention: Young Composer Award
[for student composers in undergraduate study or high school]- Performance of the winning work at the 2008 SEAMUS National Conference
- Certificate of recognition
ELIGIBILITY
You must be a student currently enrolled in an academic course of study that leads to a high school diploma, or baccalaureate, masters, or doctoral degree in music or electro-acoustic music. This competition is open to student members of SEAMUS, United States citizens, or legal residents of the United States.
RULES FOR SUBMISSION
IMPORTANT: Please note that all students applying for the SEAMUS National Conference will automatically be considered for the ASCAP/SEAMUS Student Commission. There is not a separate application for the Student Commission.
Competition finalists will be announced in March of 2008. Finalists for the competition are expected to attend the 2008 SEAMUS National Conference (April 3-5, 2008 at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah). Finalists will have their conference fees waived and be given a free ticket to the SEAMUS Banquet, where they will be recognized, and the commission winner(s) announced.
